An LG Prada successor will be soon out on the market, looking to win the credit that its predecessor has not been capable of achieving. LG KS20 will have to work hard in order to stand out from the large line of touchscreen mobile phones out there.
One great thing about LG KS20 is that it will run on Windows Mobile 6, the most evolved version of this
operating system. The device will be slightly larger than the older Prada phone model, but still one of the most compact ones, available at this time. In fact, when it comes to design and sizes, LG KS20 proves to be inferior to the older model, although it brings no radical differences.
It looks just like Prada, but brings a subtle difference with the navigation button. Moreover, the touchscreen is only 2.8 inch large and the memory has been cut down to half, at 128 MB. The display can support a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, also a serious drawback on what the older phone used to bring.
LG KS20 also comes equipped with a 2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, meant to provide captures of an average quality. There is also a second video calling camera included, for placing video calls, as this is a 3G-enabled device.
In fact, the main and probably only upgrade that this model brings over the previous one is the fact that it supports the HSDPA network. This means that it is capable of reaching data connection speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, a performance that has already been surpassed by some devices.
LG KS20 should be available in Europe by the end of the year, with an official announcement with high chances of arriving next week at IFA. The price that this device will come at has not been revealed yet, although it might prove to be quite high, if taking into consideration the device’s performances.
Nokia shows the world that it is a multi-developed company, as from now on it has its own new Internet services brand name, called Ovi. Ovi means “door” in Finnish and its launching extends Nokia’s business area beyond the mobile devices field. The new Ovi is a gateway to all Nokia services and represents an easy way for consumers to access content, communities and existing social networks from Nokia compatible devices
or from PCs.
Nokia’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, presented Ovi at the Nokia Go Play event in London and talked about Nokias future Internet-related plans: “The industry is converging towards Internet driven experiences and Ovi represents Nokia’s vision in combining the Internet and mobility. Nokia is the number one mobile device company in the world. Looking into the future, we will deliver great devices, combined with compelling experiences and services, to make it easy for people to unlock the potential of the Internet.”
“We started this journey with our navigation services earlier this year and we are now combining all our services into a single branded offering – Ovi by Nokia. Over the coming 12 months, you will see us integrate new user interface elements, service suites and web communities to Ovi”, Mr. Kallasvuo also said.
The Ovi Internet services brand is actually a suite of service offerings from Nokia. N-Gage and the Nokia Music Store are included services that help people get content available exclusively from Nokia. Searching, finding and buying games and music from a huge number of publishers and artists is made easy with N-Gage and the Nokia Music Store. Another title included in Ovi is Nokia Maps, the navigation service that provides subscribers with maps, city guides and other related content.
Just as expected, Nokia has made its big announcements in London, introducing four new devices capable of providing high-end entertainment solutions. The unexpected side of it was that Nokia 5700 Black Edition was the fifth device awaited for a release today, but which did not make it.
The Finnish company has also brought Ovi, the company’s new Internet service brand name. This enables
people to try and buy music as well as games from a wide range of artists and publishers.
Even more important, Nokia’s Music Store has just hit the market to bring millions of tracks from major artists, independent labels as well as local hits. The service has been seen as a potential competitor for Apple’s iTunes, which gives it a promising head start. The first devices optimized for this type of support are Nokia N81 and the 8GB version of Nokia N95, which have also been presented today in London.
The Nokia N-Gage mobile gaming service is the third of those unveiled today. This makes it possible to play all N-Gage games for free from any of the tens of millions of compatible Nokia devices on the market. Users can later choose to download and buy the game on the PC or mobile phone and continue to play.
Nokia N81 will come in two different versions, in order to best suit the user’s needs. There will be a simple handset and an 8GB one, just as Nokia N95 is now available for purchase. Both these devices are capable of handling a large number of applications and provide entertainment, such as music, videos and games to their users. This makes them complex devices packed with the largest memory on the handset market at this time, 8 GB.
Two XpressMusic mobile phones have also been released today. Nokia 5310 and Nokia 5610 are the ones that will take care of the user’s need for evolved music rendering. Playing songs at top quality is what they know best and now come to enlarge the line of music phones that Nokia has brought out on the market.
Everybody is waiting to see what Google has to offer with their Gphone. Expectations are quite high when it comes to this company, which also gives reason to a great amount of anticipation. Rumor has it that Google is already discussing with service providers in India for an exclusive launch on one of their networks.
According to what has been going by lately, people should expect to see the Gphone hit the telecom market
as soon as in the next two weeks. Keeping it real, though, there are slim chances for this to happen, as Google has to go through a lot of steps until they release their first mobile phone.
Just as it has happened with Apple, another company just breaking through the mobile phone market, Google will most probably plan this release thoroughly and not just land it overnight. There is still a great amount of publicity to benefit from and some serious planning to take care of.
The iPhone also owes its success to the great amount of suppositions and rumors that have had people discussing it over
several months. In order to make a big break on the telecom market too, the Gphone could very well use the same strategy, one that is surely not going to happen over the next two weeks.
Of course, Google does not comment on the rumors launched over the close release of their phone. Still, they certify their interest in mobile communication and also admit the fact that a great amount of negotiations with partners worldwide are being conducted for them to break on the telecom market, especially through Google search and applications.
The search engine major is said to have started negotiations with Indian mobile telephony operators for a future release of its phone. Moreover, the company has also showed interest in mobile technology development, by participating in the upcoming auction for 700 MHz spectrum for which it is willing to spend up to USD 4.6 billion.
The new LG Chocolate (VX8550) slider phone will be shipped with the OneTouch solution coming from Synaptics. This technology makes it possible for OEMs to create even slimmer handset designs for consumers
with the help of thin, flexible and under-plastic advantages.
LG Chocolate VX8550 has a pretty appealing design and the OneTouch solution could very well account for that. The
phone has a capacitive interface that uses this new technology, with the great advantage of keeping the handset’s sizes low and the efficiency at a large level.
“LG strives to bring innovative products to market while ensuring consumer satisfaction through an enjoyable user experience and Synaptics’ OneTouch solution allowed us to incorporate a reliable interface in our new Chocolate phone that we expect will delight users”, commented Woo-Young Kwak, head of LG Electronics mobile handset R&D center. Moreover, “Synaptics’ OneTouch development kit, tools and support greatly reduced the cycle time from design to development to production”, he further added.
The producing company for this solution has high expectations from its new technology. “We believe OneTouch will enable greater adoption of capacitive interfaces by market leaders such as LG by simplifying the industrial design and development, processes and manufacturing”, said RK Parthasarathy, product line director at Synaptics.
This comes as a result of the fact that this is an end-to-end solution, meant to help mobile phone producers with designing intuitive and superior capacitive interfaces for their devices. LG Chocolate VX8550 is one of them and can be found at Verizon Wireless, on the US market.
Synaptics is a leading developer that creates interface solutions for a large number of various devices, including notebook PCs, PC peripherals, digital music players and mobile phones. The company already has a considerable experience with consumer electronics, as its TouchPad is already integrated into a majority of today’s notebook computers.
