The LG VX8560 is a flip phone and could possibly replace the current VX8700. A TFT display on the front (with a camera lens above it) and a newly designed silver audio control, as well as a dedicated Music and Camera button on the right side.

And the LG VX9700 is a phone with a large WQVGA touchscreen, 3.2MP camera with Schneider Kreuznach lens, on-screen QWERTY keypad, microUSB data port, and microSDHC memory card slot. From the new image we can see that the volume buttons will be on the right side, just below the microUSB port, and there is a third button at the bottom edge, possible a camera or smart button. Located under the touchscreen are the send, clear, and end buttons. There also appears to be a light sensor at the top-left, possibly to control the brightness of the display.

i-mobile 520

The i-Mobile 520 is part of the Multimedia range of phones sold by Samart i-mobile (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. At the time of writing, the RRP for this device is RM 448. The 520 is a simple candybar device with the buttons on the front and the camera lens on the back. The surface of the casing appears to be brushed metal, but tapping upon it with other metal items did not produce a metallic ring, so it appears that this is merely a very well done paint job.

There is a volume toggle on the left, while the camera button is on the right. Also found on the right side is the USB port and the slot for the MicroSD card. The screen is a 262K-colour one, measuring in at 176 x 220 pixels for a rather small but fairly bright effect. We liked the default wallpaper which displayed two clocks. One clock showed KL time while the other showed Sydney time.

The entire user interface has been updated to offer consistent menu options and navigation.UIQ v3.3 is also optimized to work with operator customization packages, which will hopefully enable UIQ-based handsets to more easily pass operator testing and branding requirements.

The platform now allows operators to use branded application launchers, folders, and widget dashboards. UIQ v3.3 also brings a new ability to use less powerful processors, which will enable new price points and form factors to be introduced.

Motorola has Completed EV-DO to LTE Data Handoff

Motorola has completed a test of data packets from a CDMA/EV-DO network to incompatible LTE based network. The technology is a major step for LTE, as it will enable carriers like Verizon Wireless to gradually roll out LTE by offering dual-mode handsets.

The test was conducted using laptops equipped with dual antennas that supported both CDMA/EV-DO and LTE. Once the data stream was started, the device was able to lose LTE connectivity and maintain performance while switching to CDMA/EV-DO, and vice versa.

This handoff technology is important to operators looking to upgrade in the future to LTE since it will offer the ability to roll out LTE while still maintaining their current 3G EV-DO network. Consumers will also see the benefit as they will not need to sacrifice service quality for the higher data speeds offered by LTE.
