 Apple updates Remote app for iPhone, adds Genius functionality

Apple has updated their Remote application for the iPhone and iPod Touch to version 1.1. The free application adds remote control capabilities for both iTunes and your Apple TV through your local Wi-Fi network connection.  Using Remote you can scroll through playlists, artists, genres and search your music. In addition, the remote will show you the album artwork of the current song and allow you to adjust star ratings and other settings, just like you would on an iPod. According to the release notes, you will now be able to create a Genius playlist, and create/edit playlists in iTunes.  EA and Eidos Announce Strategic Mobile Relationship

Big name video game developer, publisher, and distributor Electronic Arts announced today an agreement with video game company Eidos Interactive to bring several games to mobile phones.  Effective immediately, the agreement provides licences to EA across all existing mobile channels and mobile devices for four key titles: Tomb Raider Underworld, Just Cause 2, California Games X and Minesweeper, with a future option on the mobile versions of the majority of Eidos videogame properties for a period of three years. With more than 35 million games sold across the globe and two blockbuster films, the Tomb Raider franchise needs no presentation, hence its upcoming mobile iteration will most probably be a huge success.   read more…

The Blackberry Storm has officially gone live on Verizon’s website for all to see in its glory. Upon visiting the website, the Verizon and BlackBerry faithful are greeted by a promising teaser image of the device. The BlackBerry Storm isn’t available for purchase or even pre-order. Verizon is taking email sign-ups from interested parties looking to be notified when the BlackBerry Storm does indeed go on sale. We already know that the Storm will include both CDMA EV-DO Rev.A and GSM/UMTS HSPA for global use. It will also include GPS for VZ Navigation. Moreover, specifications of this new BlackBerry device include a high resolution touch screen with “click” technology, 3.2 megapixel camera with video support, and visual voicemail. Alaska Communications Systems announced today the release of three different BlackBerrys for their subscribers: the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130. With evolution data optimized (EVDO) technology deployed on the state’s only 3G code division multiple access (CDMA) network, ACS (News – Alert) offers customers “unparalleled” wireless voice quality and data speeds. The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone, BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone, and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone each offer the full BlackBerry experience including email, browser, text messaging (SMS and MMS), instant messaging, media player and organizer applications, plus built-in GPS, all intended to help busy people stay connected. While BlackBerry Curve 8330 and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 can be bought as of now from the ACS official website (for prices starting at $149 and $199 respectively), BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is not available yet.
