A new Sony eBook reader was announced in New York City yesterdayand some of the improvements over its predecessor include a touch screen display for a more intuitive reading experience. A book lover could easily flip pages as if it was a real book and also utilize its virtual keyboard to search for terms as well as highlight areas of interest. No larger than a paperback book, the PRS-700 tips the scales at just 10 ounces and would make for a great classroom tool in order to relieve our young from carrying tons of tomes around school and campus.

According to the press release “The device still features high-resolution, high contrast electronic paper display technology which provides a reading experience very much akin to ink-on-paper. The result is crisp text and graphics that are highly readable, even in bright sunlight. For times when ambient light is not available, Sony is the first to offer a built-in LED reading light. Expanded memory offers enough capacity to store about 350 average digital books. Using optional removable Memory Stick Duo media or SD memory cards, this Reader can hold literally thousands of books and documentsâ€.  read more…
The limited edition Incrudo Phantom from Russia is a GSM/GPRS phone that will be available exclusively via the Euroset mobile network, presenting itself as the most durable mobile phone in the world. This handset is targeted for new billionaires in Russia due to the oil boom. it has been reported that only 10 of these phones will be released via the Euroset mobile network. To make us take these words seriously, the Russian manufacturer INCRUDO has armored the Phantom with a 2-3 mm coating made from titanium alloy.

The coating turned the handset into a bulky and heavy one that measures 106 x 45 x 18 millimeters and weighs 230 grams. And no, that is not a typo, it’s 230, not 130. Generally, phantoms are known as lightweight beings, but at this weight, the handset had better been named INCRUDO Dinosaur. HTC Touch Cruise, which in November will make one year since its official unveiling, can now be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1. The Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the HTC Touch Cruise is now ready to bring all sorts of threaded SMS goodness to your touchscreen HTC handset. But, HTC didn’t stop there. The WM6.1 update includes bug fixes that should get some of those finicky Bluetooth, on-screen keyboard, GPS, radio, and camera features working right-proper.

And along with the usual 6.1 goodness, HTC also is throwing in fixes for:
- Bluetooth Headset: It may happen that you cannot hear anything when using Bluetooth headsets (Jabra JX10, Jabra BT500 or Samsung WEP 150) even when it has already successfully reconnected with the Touch Cruise.
- Default Onscreen Keyboard: It may happen that the device will not remember the last onscreen keyboard used. Before, the onscreen keyboard always defaults to the Touch Keyboard. read more…
In an effort to expand its device business beyond the borders of just the corporate crowd, The Wall Street Journal just announced that Hewlett Packard is getting ready to release a new smart phone that is also going to be marketed to the “average joe consumer.”The phone will be the latest iteration of HP’s iPAQ PDA devices. These have normally been targeted at business users in the past, like the pictured 910c Business Messenger, but the new model will apparently be targeted at consumers. It’ll feature a touchscreen, and a slide-out qwerty keypad

The company began selling iPaq-branded devices in 2002, when it acquired Compaq Computer Corp; although earlier iPaqs focused more on businesses and weren’t usually sold in retail stores. So, they are obviously trying to make a leap into a broader market.
The phone is going to have the usual smartphone touchscreen and keypad, and will run Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. read more…
