AT&T Samsung Epix SGH-i907 reviewed

The AT&T Samsung Epix which many might know as the SGH-i907 has now joined the long list of handsets that the carrier now has in its line-up. Less impressive is the shape, which manages to feel bigger than the smartphone actually is thanks to the brutal edges. There’s also a distinct absence of any real attempt to make Windows Mobile more usable; in fact, the only real additions are trial subscriptions.

Samsung have not spent too much money on the stylus as it feels cheap, but you will not use it much as the optical mouse will be used much more. Samsung Epix is available on AT&T right now for $199.99 with a two year agreement. Buy it unlocked for $499.99, but be wary of the following pros and cons discovered by its reviewers! The Samsung Epix SGH-i907 is a Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone with 3G HSPDA data speed. Key features include a 2.0 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS, video share, microSD slot(up to 32GB), touchscreen with full a QWERTY keyboard and video share.

Eee PC maker readies Android phone for 2009

Eee PC maker Asus will release a Google Android-based smartphone during the first six months of 2009. According to Digitimes, the company plans to launch its own Android-powered handset in the first half of 2009. It’s also said that the phone could initially appear only in Asus’ native territory, Taiwan. Later, it may be tweaked for what are called “overseas clients” – carriers, presumably.

The sources mentioned believe Asus will release the handset under its own brand name in its native Asia, but may re-brand for ‘clients’ (i.e. carriers, in the same way HTC has done for T-Mobile) in other territories. Asus already offers a range of Windows Mobile smartphones –  the M930  and the P750 here – but it has yet to win the carrier support that’s essentially to take the company out of its unlocked-only niche into the wider mobile phone market.  read more…

The devices feature access to 7.2Mbps HSDPA networks, assisted GPS capabilities and Windows Mobile 6.1 with the Microsoft Office Mobile suite. Both also share a 2-megapixel camera along with a 0.3-megapixel front-facing unit for video calling. Differences include the full QWERTY keyboard of the Traveller 127 and the touchscreen of the 117. From the photos, it’s clear the 117 will also run the SPB Mobile Shell. Both units offer 4 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours of standby.
