Casio announced an 8.1MP mobile handset today for Japan region. Dubbed Casio EXILIM W63CA cameraphone, Â features one of the most advanced cameras in the industry.The clamshell has a wide-angle 28mm (35mm format) lens with nine-point autofocus and includes a YouTube mode which records VGA video at 30fps. Images and video playback should be clear and crisp thanks to the phone’s 480×800 AMOLED WVGA display.
The phone includes a Micro-SD slot, Bluetooth, a media player, a web browser and an email client to keep us connected, while a weight of around 123g (4.33 ounces) won’t weigh down our pockets. The W63CA measures 50mm (1.96″) x 110mm (4.33″) x 17.4mm (0.68″) and will go on sale in Japan in November.No, we like it because there’s a real sense that this is a camera converted into a phone, not vice versa.
The netbook designation was always a bit tricky and Dell’s just officially announced  the Inspiron Mini 12. It weighs around 1.2Kg, is under 1in thick and comes with Windows Vista Home Basic, built-in webcam, 1GB of Ram and a choice of 60GB or 80GB hard disk drives. APC magazine in Australia got a machine from Michael Dell and has a world first comprehensive review. APC points out that that the Mini 12 uses a Z-series Atom processor (either the Z520 or Z530) and Intel’s low-power Poulsbo chipset. Which is clever, but has the major drawback that it limits you to 1GB of memory.
Dell is targeting this netbook at “teens, tweens, travellers and “Tweeters” to surf the Web, chat with friends, blog, stream content, upload photos or enjoy online videos, music and games.” It is available in Japan only at this point in time, although a global launch is set to follow later this November with prices starting from a shade under $600 upwards, depending on the configuration you choose. Following Sprint, Verizon Wireless soon will release a CDMA Base Station from Samsung called Ubicell. A small white box that looks like a WiFi access point, the UbiCell is actually mini cell tower designed for CDMA 1x networks. Â The device connects to a mobile network through a broadband connection and is designed to provide enhanced cell coverage for the home. Femtocells are cellular base stations the size of a wi-fi access point that provide cellular coverage in the home.
The CDMA version supports both 850 and 1900 bands, plus EVDO and seamless handoffs to towers on the main network. Users can travel with the UbiCell and use it wherever there is power, broadband, and their carrier has licensed spectrum. This version will come with GPS. A WCDMA version for America is planned for trials in 2008.
