100Mbps Verizon FiOS to (Probably) Arrive in 2009

Verizon’s technology director says the company is preparing to roll out 100 Mbps service next year for its fiber network. Thus, It’s not just Sprint that’s working on improving its wireless network. The Network has tested the FIOS this year despite admitting that the 100Mbps speed was more of a marketing strategy than an actual possibility. The increase will be necessary as many services beyond ordinary computer-borne Internet access, such as HDTVs with direct video downloads and network-attached storage drives, will demand a large amount of bandwidth on their own.

100Mbps Verizon FiOS to (Probably) Arrive in 2009

“A lot of these different TVs will have inordinate demand on the bandwidth that’s required on the network in order to support them,” he says.Looking forward, Verizon is already considering the next step beyond the GPON technology it began rolling out last year. GPON is expected to be OK for the foreseeable future, and standards for so-called post-GPON technologies aren’t expected to be standardized for a few years.

Konami could have revealed an Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid, this is according to a new flash page that appears on Konami’s Kojima Productions website. MGS4 is currently a PS3-title only and it’s unclear if there was a financial arrangement with Sony or if Konami simply did not have the time and resources to build two versions simultaneously.
