Nokia Email with Gmail

 Nokia released their Symbian-optimised email service. Now available to download, Nokia Messaging is still a trial service but the app is a far cry from its beta predecessor. Alongside improved navigation and better syncing performance – it now actually works. New features include the ability to sync multiple folders for the same IMAP account, flagged Gmail messages automatically become starred messages on your Gmail account and you can now have up to 10 email accounts.

French Regulators Slap Down Apple’s iPhone Agreement

Unlike in other countries where Apple has an exclusive deal with one of the phone operators to sell and provide service for the iPhone 3G, in France the regulators said “Non!”. Then, Apple must immediately cease its exclusive relationship with France Telecom’s Orange and allow other local carriers to offer the iPhone to its subscribers, the French competition counsel ruled Wednesday.The French competition counsel said Apple’s exclusive arrangement with Orange poses a serious and immediate threat to competition in the wireless sector and causes consumers to incur hefty and unjust fees should they attempt to switch providers.

The Council’s ruling is reportedly temporary, precautionary and “pending a decision on the merits” of the issue. Meanwhile, the Council will continue to investigate the situation. The measure not only requires Apple to open the iPhone to other French mobile phone operators, but also bars Apple and France Telecom to enter any other exclusive agreements for future iPhone models. InPlay unveils WriteSense digital pen technology

InPlay, developer of human interface devices for computing and communication products, technologies has unwrapped a new WriteSense digital pen technology to overcome the technique barrier, enabling pen inputs for capacitive touch-screen devices. InPlay’s RF pen communicates directly with the capacitive touch sensors rather than requiring a digitizer.  Essentially, this will mean smaller and cheaper RF pens, which is probably a good thing since capacitive touchscreens will likely continue their assault on resistive touchscreens

On the other hand, this sort of technology would be useful in a tablet PC/UMPC/MID or any other capacitive device that is intended for use with handwriting programs or other applications requiring more accuracy. read more…

AirCard 501 And 502 Modems From Sierra Wireless

Especially for the HSUPA wireless users worldwide, Sierra Wireless has just released on the market a new pair of ExpressCard modems.  Sierra Wireless today introduced the AirCard 501 and the AirCard 502 ExpressCard modems for HSPA mobile broadband networks. The AirCard 501 and AirCard 502 ExpressCards offer top download speeds of up to 7.2 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps.

The AirCard 501 supports 850/1900/2100 MHz bands and the AirCard 502 supports 900/2100 MHz bands. They are also backwards compatible with UMTS, EDGE, and GSM networks and as the name title of thsi post might suggest they are durable meaning no hardly any plastic parts and its very hard for you to break it. Commercial shipments of the AirCard 501 ExpressCard are scheduled for later this month. Availability of the AirCard 502 ExpressCard is planned for the first quarter of 2009.

O2 Germany to Offer XDA Guide in February 2009

O2 Germany just announced its latest Xda windows mobile smartphone called O2 Xda Guide.The 2.8-inch 320×240 touchscreen device comes in an O2 exclusive design and is running on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The O2 Xda Guide will be available in the middle of February 2009 and comes with TomTom Navigator 7, the map material for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
