Microsoft announces Windows Mobile 6.5

As expected, Microsoft has formally announced Windows Mobile 6.5, the next version of its operating system for high-end phones. At Mobile World Congress 2009, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled the long awaited Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. Microsoft attempts to redefine exactly what their service offers, and to further link the PC and phone together. The WinMo 6.5 has a slightly updated user interface, some new features and enhanced browsing experience using the latest version of Internet Explorer. Browsing the internet will be easier, with Flash support and a series of helpful icons along the bottom of the screen, displaying internet options. In fact, the whole experience behind Windows Phone has changed, becoming much easier to navigate and more accessible for first-time users, with the new lock screen being a prime example. The new honeycomb launcher makes it easy to launch an application with just a casual touch of a finger – the design apparently makes it easier to tap a desired icon accurately.  The new backup service, Microsoft MyPhone, will let Windows phone users back up and restore up to 200MB of data using a Web-based repository, adding PC-based Web management of the content. The free software will allow for automatic synchronisation, ensuring vital data such as contacts, meeting schedules and messages are always backed up – consequently allowing for simpler transitions to newer handsets.

These first devices are mainly targeted at consumers who want to make use of excellent technology both for their personal and their professional needs.
