The Skypephone S2 is now available for purchase from the 3 Store. The Skypephone S2 claims as the next generation of internet-focussed mobile handsets. It arrives as the successor to 3’s already established original Skypephone, and is designed to make “mobilised internet an easy-to-use and instantly accessible reality”. For that, S2 adds a new ‘carousel’ interface and access to social networking services like Facebook with HSDPA wireless network support. The S2 comes with a dedicated Facebook app that allows to you access your profile at the click of a button. Moreover, 3 Skypephone S2 comes equipped with a high quality camera and generous memory so you can take better snaps and save more of them. The 2.2-inch, 320×240 resolution display replaces the old 176×220 unit. Onboard storage of the S2 is 50MB, with a micro SD card slot supporting cards up to 4GB in size. Skype-to-Skype calls are completely free from the phone, and the Skype service can be kept active by adding £10 (about $19) monthly on a pay-as-you-go arrangement. The Skypephone S2 will be available to UK residents online on August 28 and from 3’s stores starting on September 1. Pricing is expected to be in the equivalent $130 range, and like the original should see availability expand to include Italy, Sweden, Hong Kong, Australia, Austria and Denmark
