ACS Launches BlackBerry Smartphones on Alaska’s Fastest Network
Alaska Communications Systems announced today the release of three different BlackBerrys for their subscribers: the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130. With evolution data optimized (EVDO) technology deployed on the state’s only 3G code division multiple access (CDMA) network, ACS (News - Alert) offers customers “unparalleled†wireless voice quality and data speeds. The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone, BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone, and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone each offer the full BlackBerry experience including email, browser, text messaging (SMS and MMS), instant messaging, media player and organizer applications, plus built-in GPS, all intended to help busy people stay connected. While BlackBerry Curve 8330 and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 can be bought as of now from the ACS official website (for prices starting at $149 and $199 respectively), BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is not available yet. However, the smartphone that offers users global roaming capabilities can be pre-ordered for $249 (a contract agreement for two years is required)

The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone with ACS wireless service allows customers to place and receive domestic and international calls in all the continents except South America and Antarctica. In addition, it provides a full suite of voice and data services across ACS’ North American CDMA roaming footprint and is equipped with an accessible slot for a pre-paid SIM card and offers voice and data functionality in GSM destinations worldwide. The BlackBerry Curve 8330 is RIM’s a full-QWERTY smartphone. This device comes with email, phone, organizer, camera, video capability, HTML browser, and built-in GPS, along with media player.
