SMobile Systems Releases the First Antivirus to Protect Google Android Phones. VirusGuard for Android Keeps G1 Users Safe from Attack of Mobile Viruses. When Google introduced the open source Android operating system last November, it wanted to bring the innovation of the Web to the mobile space. But that environment could potentially open the door for mobile viruses and malware. On that reason SMobile Systems has created the first antivirus software for the Android-powered G1
The software, called VirusGuard, will help to protect the Android powered devices from viruses, spyware, and malware. SMobile VirusGuard for Android will allow users to scan their devices and memory cards for over 400 known instances and variants of mobile Malware. SMobile will also offer parental controls that will allow parents to closely monitor their child’s cell phone voice and messaging activities to ensure they are safe. The antivirus software can be purchased from SMobile’s Web site or at Handango for $4.99. The company said it will be in the Android Market in the first quarter of 2009 when companies will be able to charge for applications.
