Media-player manufacturer Archos is developing a portable tablet-phone that uses the Google Android operating system for wireless connectivity, voice and applications. The device is not a regular smartphone, but an Internet Media Tablet (IMT) that has mobile phone capabilities. A press release from Texas Instruments, described the device as ultra-thin at just 10mm- will support high-definition video playback as well as run the standard applications available for download through the Android Market. The Android IMT also has a 5-inch high-resolution touchscreen, up to 500GB storage. The new Archos Android device is said to be powered by a new Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) processor based on the same OMAP3 architecture that recently garnered the Palm Pre. The touch-screen device, soon to be known as the Internet Media Tablet, will be released in the 3rd quarter of 2009
