Quake 3 Arena ported to iPhone/iPod Touch!

We all know there’s a lot happening under the hood of Apple’s touchy products, iPhone and iPod Touch. However, we had no idea the CPU can handle a game like Quake 3 Arena. To be fair, it’s been a while since the popular first-person-shooter has been released, but it’s impressive nevertheless.

Anyway, we’ve no details who did this and as you’re about to see from the following video - they even make use of the built-in accelerometer. It doesn’t mean Quake will be more “playable” on the iPhone/iPod Touch than it is on a PC, but will certainly make the gaming experience more engaging.

3G iPhone in 60 days, Walt Mossberg promises

While talking up web as a video delivery medium at a Beet.TV executive summit, Walt Mossberg casually yet confidently mentioned that the iPhone will be going 3G in 60 days. Of course, it doesn’t take an illustrious position as tech pundit to the masses to figure out a 3G iPhone is just around the corner: price cuts, stock shortages and word from Ralph de la Vega himself have rapidly narrowed down the launch window, but a semi-guarantee from Uncle Walt is certainly icing on the cake. Katana LX Now Officialy at Sprint’s

Even not the most interesting phone, the Katana LX has been talked about for a long time now. The rumors proved right, and this really is the successor of the Katana II, with similar functionality but refreshed, shinier design. Similar to some high-class phones, below the reflecting surface on the front is hidden an OLED display.

Sanyo Katana LX is a dual-band CDMA clamshell and features 65k color TFT QVGA display, VGA camera, Bluetooth, WAP browser, Speakerphone and organizer.

The Garmin nuviphone

Garmin’s nüviphone bring a handset to market that thinks GPS first, phone after. Of course, this handset is no slouch in the tech-goodie department, featuring quad-band GSM, tri-band HSDPA, Bluetooth, a 3 megapixel shooter, and a gorgeous 3.5-inch touchscreen. The nüviphone includes maps of Europe, North America, or both, real-time traffic, weather, local events, gas prices, and the like. No word on pricing or release date, but believe us when we say we’ll be keeping our eyes wide open watching for this one. Sadly the only specimen we could manage to find was this version that refused to come out of its acrylic bubble, so if the pics in the gallery below look a wee bit odd, that’s why.

Video: Samsung Instinct

Video: Samsung Instinct

That’s the Samsung Instinct, due to hit Sprint in June. Better get used to it, because Sprint’s about to start hyping it with the biggest marketing push in its history — it’s going to drop some $100M on this lil’ guy. Of course, there’s no escaping the comparison to a certain other touchscreen candybar phone, and Sprint’s not backing down from a fight — it’s just being willfully obtuse, saying that while the Instinct wasn’t developed in response to the iPhone, the company recognized that it needed “a product from a usability standpoint that can compete.” Um, sure. Samsung and Sprint worked together to simplify the UI, which features a reconfigurable home screen, music, and TV features, but we’re going to hold off judgment until we get a look at the browser in person a little later. One more shot after the break.
