Finally, somebody has made it happen. HTC HD2 can now run Android 2.1 (Eclair) or 2.2 (Froyo). Android on the HD2 is now reality. From the looks of the two videos, Froyo seems to perform much better without Sense. Sense is more of a heavy-weight UI, whereas stock Froyo keeps the homescreen nice and light.
There are still issues with each, including audio issues during calls and – on the Froyo build – some 3G problems, so these may not be everyday ROMs for you, but the good news is that the 1GHz Snapdragon processor in the HD2 keeps them running as slickly as you’d find on a Nexus One or Desire.
If you are a real geek you may head over to XDA-Developers forums now and get all the necessary files and instructions to install android 2.1 on HTC HD2 successfully. Make sure that a memory card has 2GB of free storage and the card needs to be a class 4 microSD for speed purposes.
Below are videos of each build running on the HTC HD2, enjoy.
Opera today released the first beta of Opera Mobile 10.1 for Symbian Series 60 phones. Opera Mobile 10.1 beta features accelerated speed and geolocation capabilities.Smartphones running under Symbian S60, 3rd and 5th editions, can already benefit from the features Opera Mobile 10.1 beta brings into the mix.
Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for S60 features the new Presto rendering engine, Vega graphics library and Carakan JavaScript engine. This brings Opera Mobile’s rendering capabilities on par with the desktop edition. Also new to this release is Geolocation, which allows location aware web-applications to directly pinpoint you on a map. Your privacy is important, and you decide if and when Opera Mobile will share your location.
Opera Mobile 10.1’s other features include speed dial, Opera link, password manager, tabbed browsing, a virtual keyboard, kinetic scrolling and auto-rotation to landscape. It also has a feature called Opera Turbo. This apparently uses Opera’s own servers to compress webpages and “more than double your browsing speed” so the company says, when the network speed slows to a crawl.
