Walmart iPhone 3G rumors continue: 8GB for $197 on Dec 28th?

Walmart officially confirmed rumors on Friday that iPhone 3G will be available for sale at nearly 2,500 store locations beginning Sunday, December 28, 2008. Walmart will blast out the black 8 GB iPhone 3G model for $197 and the 16 GB black or white model for $297 with a new two-year AT&T service agreement qualified upgrade required. According to Mac Rumors, they have received training material and advertising from a source connected with Walmart that lists only the 8GB iPhone 3G. This would therefore be the same model on offer at Best Buy, AT&T and of course Apple Stores, only Walmart would apparently be selling the handset for $197: two dollars less than the standard MRSP.

Add everything up, and the regular $199 iPhone 3G will cost at least somewhere between $2033.76 and about $2700 over a 2-year period, depending on where you live and which taxes and fees apply and assuming that you will stay within the limits of your voice plan. In a best case, the Walmart price translates into a 0.1% discount.

“iPhone Nano” is spotted in Thailand

Rumor is going crazy about what Apple will announce in next January’s Macworld. There are already iPhone Nano imitators hitting the streets of Southeast Asia, and it’s pretty ridiculous when you think about it - knocking off a product that hasn’t even been announced. Definitely this one will have “Made in China” label, but truthfully it is definitely inspired by the information about the upcoming small-sized iPhone. The fake one even have the Apple logo in the back cover to make it look as official as possible.

The rumors have been fueled by images of an XSKN case released for the iPhone nano, with dimensions roughly 20 percent shorter and slightly thinner than the 3G model. The company had accurately predicted the current iPod touch and Nano devices before any formal announcement by Apple.

RIM Wants to Redesign Keypad; Has Patent for IT

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion is looking at something new in the mobile phone line, and that is a mobile handset that has a keypad with wings and have filed a patent for such.  In the original position it looks like a normal alphanumeric keypad and then there are two hinges on the left and right edges that open to reveal four columns of keys (two on each side) that would convert it into a QWERTY keypad.

The phone is definitely slimmer which means some of that keyboard has to sit under the display. The new keypad is weird to say the least. When will we be able to try one of those?

While we are still looking for additional confirmation from our tipsters, this non-3G BlackBerry features a 512MHz processor and 256MB of RAM along with that sexy updated BlackBerry 4.6OS. The device is clearly aimed at UMA calling via T-mobile’s HotSpots@Home since it packs WiFi to make up for the lack of high-speed data.   It is already available in Germany, and one was even sold on eBay for $17100.
