By Sidecut Reports, Clearwire will soon open portable WiMAX / WiFi router built Cradlepoint (prototype photo), which will use Motorola WiMAX USB Stick to WiFi-devices that can gather round and travel in admirably early WiMAX superhighway. In other words, products such as the iPhone or laptops that don’t have a WiMax chip will be able to sit within a certain proximity of the device and achieve super fast download speeds over WiFi, that is assuming WiMax escapes the confines of Baltimore.
The router, seen here in prototype form, was demonstrated at the official Clear launch in Portland, Oregon, yesterday. Although a WiMAX router has been announced by ZyXel, it will require a separate subscription to a USB modem for an individual device.According to Scott Richardson, Clearwire’s strategy officer, the router will cost in the region of $125 and be available “soonâ€, possibly even as quickly as February 2009.
