Concept of Elektrobit’s satellite cell phone

When a GPS receiver, a PDA, VOIP phone, AND a satellite phone bundled into one, minus the bulky satellite antenna, and it will be laid out on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with all the usual connectivity options including WiFi and Bluetooth makes me like this one even more.

It will also have a QVGA touchscreen and a 3-megapixel camera rounding its already fabulous features, while being a tad bit thicker than your usual PDA phone. This is a true concept of Elektrobit’s satellite cell phone.

The promised talktimes don’t seem too bad with up to 5 hours on GSM networks, 3 hours on WCDMA, and 1.3 hours on satellite networks using its 1400mAh battery. It will be able to handle a variety of image, audio, and formats with support for newer video formats like H.264 and H.263 at 30fps.

Cost you ask? If things turn out well, Elektrobit claims that it can deliver this monster at the price of a regular cell phone. All this sounds sweet but the whole concept hinges on the Terrestar Satellite being up and running by 2009, which is when this baby is expected to roll out.
