Dell unveiled a prototype of the long rumored Dell Adamo on January 9th at CES 2009. The laptop has an ultraslim design that makes it easy to hold, as demonstrated by an on-stage model who held it with a few fingers revealing it to be a lightweight laptop, which could make it a possible competitor to Apple’s MacBook Air.
It won’t be just a laptop, but a whole new brand name of luxury products, said Michael Tatelman, vice president of global consumer sales and marketing at Dell. The release didn’t have any mention of the specifications but going by the pictures it looks like a 13-incher with 3 USB ports, a 250GB hard drive with a 500GB external drive, a Blu-ray combo drive, a DisplayPort connector, and an auto/air adapter for use in a car or during a flight, eSATA, LAN, Windows Vista and color options of either black or white. The machine itself looks really slick, and is very reminiscent of Voodoo’s Envy 133. There is currently no release date or price, but the prototype on display at CES 2009 is evidently the first in a family of Dell Adamo devices.

In the post-Madoff world, people no longer want “luxury”. They want cheap and solid. A netbook running Linux is the most solid piece of technology in the world. It should always cost under $300 and even cheaper.
