Samsung JACK i616 in Merlot color is now available through Rogers Wireless. Nice colour the Merlot, but that Fido branding on the Rogers website sure does look strange. Jack includes 260MHz TI OMAP2420 processors, 128MB of RAM, and 256MB of flash storage. The devices have full QWERTY keyboards and 2.4-inch QVGA displays.
Anyway, now when the JACK is Windows Mobile 6.1 compliant, Rogers will ship the smartphone with the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS. The price is $24.99 on a way-too-long 3-year plan. Samsung’s SGH-i616, also known as the Jack, is marketed in Canada by the carriers Rogers and Fido, and looks identical to the SGH-i617, sold as the Blackjack II by AT&T in the U.S. However, the Jack apparently features just dual-band (900 and 1800MHz) GSM and 2100MHz UMTS capability, whereas the Blackjack II adds 850MHz and 1900MHz GSM frequencies, plus 850MHz and 1900MHz UMTS.
