Google has released an early look at the software developer kit for the Android 1.5 platform, which is based on the Cupcake development branch of the smartphone OS. Version 1.5 introduces APIs for features such as soft keyboards, home screen widgets, live folders, and speech recognition.
Among the features that v1.5 brings to the end user , the new SDK carries a few key changes:
*The SDK now supports multiple versions of the platform, so developers can continue to work on applications for the current release (v1.1) while preparing their apps for the next one.
*Developers can now install SDK add-ons. This allows carriers, OEMs, and other third-parties to easily expand the SDK for their needs without Google having to hold their hand.
There is also an updated version of the plugin for the Eclipse Java programming environment. At the developer site, you can download the early-look Android 1.5 SDK, read important information about upgrading your Eclipse plugin and existing projects, and learn about what’s new and improved in Android 1.5.
