Palm seems insisting on its position in the hot market for “smart” phones, by announced the Treo 800w smartphone with Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities and running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition. The Treo 800w is the first major new model from Palm since last year’s introduction of the Centro, a smaller version of its flagship Treo.
The Palm Treo 800w debuts on Sprint with a slate blue color with a soft touch exterior finish. It is outfitted with a 320×320 pixel TFT color touchscreen. Palm designed the Treo 800w for easy-to-use mobility with a full QWERTY keyboard, five-way navigation and one-touch buttons to the most-used applications, making it a smartphone people want to use. A 2.0 megapixel camera is on the back that features 2x digital zoom and video capture. Also situated around back, is the removable 1150 mAh lithium-ion battery good for an imaginary 4 hours talk/200 hours standby rating. A new micro USB 2.0 port is used for power and data transfer and is the sole means for audio out via an included stereo headset. As Sprint’s first smartphone to ship immediately with EV-DO Rev. A network support, the Treo 800w offers customers the ability to quickly browse the web and send and receive emails - even those with large attachments - at broadband speeds. The Treo 800w costs $250 after discounts and rebates with a two-year contract. It requires a Sprint service plan for at least $70 a month, plus taxes and fees.
