Dell today held an early, low-key launch for its promised Studio XPS notebooks. This goes for two of its new laptops, the Studio XPS 1340 and the Studio XPS 1640, which have been recently leaked onto the  configuration page of the manufacturer’s website. They come with a new black-and-silver trim as well as new, edge-to-edge display and a revamped keyboard unlike the company’s other models. According to the available information on the company’s website, both systems will have the same $1199 price point, something that is yet to be confirmed.

The 16-inch model  is one of Dell’s few 16:9 aspect ratio models and can use either a 720p (1366×768) or 1080p (1920×1080) wide display suited to movies. It also carries a faster Mobility Radeon HD 3670 chipset in standard trim and has a wider range of options than the smaller system, including up to 8GB of RAM, a 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo and a Blu-ray combo drive.

The base model of the 1340 includes a P8400 processor, Vista Home Premium, a 13.3-inch WXGA LCD, 2 megapixel webcam, 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM, 320GB 7200rpm SATA drive, slot-loading DVD burner and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G graphics, while the 1640 is similar, but with ATI Mobility RADEON M86XT graphics.
