Modaco just posted some pictures and the specs of the new Windows Mobile Professional powered HTC Touch HD. It seems that the iPhone just got some serious competition from the Windows Mobile camp. So far known only as the Touch HD, the Windows Mobile 6.1 handset would revolve around an extremely high-resolution 800×480 widescreen while using new design elements to keep the design small. HTC Touch HD measures 115 x 62.8 x 12mm (which is just about the iPhone 3G with 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm). The device itself is unusually clutter free for a Windows Mobile device, as it only has four buttons on the front facia (which consists of a call and end call button, as well as a home and back button), although all of them are flush to the front of the device and are most likely touch sensitive buttons. The HTC Touch HD will be powered by a Qualcomm 7201A 528MHz cpu, which makes the device would be faster inside than most of HTC’s lineup. In addition it comes with built in GPS, 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0 and the usual 64k colors for Windows Mobile. According to the source, it will have a 5 megapixel camera and support HSDPA wireless data connection. Similar to Touch Diamond, no flash module to assist the camera for low light photography. With a 3.5 mm headphone jack it also has good music player capabilities. How soon the Touch HD might be released is unknown. Available images suggest the prototype may have been photographed in HTC’s native Taiwan region and so may still be in early development at the smartphone maker. HTC nonetheless typically launches versions of its Touch phones internationally, including in North America.
