Intel announces Moblin 2.1 for phones

Intel has just announced a new version of the Moblin user interface, 2.1. The UI runs on an Atom-based device and it has been redesigned for handhelds. During the presentation, Intel also displayed a Smartphone running the OS as well and proclaimed: “Something big has happened to your mobile phone.” Pics from both devices definitely confirm that the Moblin UI for MID and Smartphones have been tweaked to suite the device’s screen dimensions and functionality.
The interface is looking pretty slick indeed. Navigation seems to be a breeze using the panels toolbar nestled at the top of the screen. The ‘People’ panel takes care of your contact list and allows the user to directly get in contact using IM,SMS or voice calling. The next tab is the ‘Status’, that shows all of your friend’s updates from a range of social networks directly in one centralised location.
Intel also revealed that Moblin 2.1 includes support for Flash and Silverlight, so interactive web applications can run inside web pages on all Moblin 2.1 devices, unlike the iPhone, which only displays standard web pages.
