iPhone 3.0-compatible FLO TV accessory in the works by Qualcomm

Besides making cut/paste and tethering a reality on the iPhone, the other notable feature in iPhone firmware 3.0 is that it will allow developers to create 3rd party accessories for use on the iPhone.Qualcomm  revealed that it’s developing an add-on that would give the iPhone a tuner for FLO TV digital broadcasts. It was announced by President Bill Stone and he said that the iPhone 3.0-compatible antenna /chip accessory  was currently in the works. It is not the first device that bring TV to the iPhone as a SoftBank 1Seg tuner gives Japanese customers broadcasts, anyway it would be the first with the potential to use a more battery-efficient connection to provide video. No definite time frame was given as to when the service and these accessories will roll out, but analysts peg early next year as a safe estimate.

FLO TV (previously MediaFLO) has also faced concerns over the cost of its service, which needs a subscription that typically ranges between $15 and $20 in addition to regular cellphone plans.
