The iPhone Dev Team have confirmed that you can use RedSn0w 0.8 to fix a serious SMS vulnerability in the iPhone OS where your iPhone can be completely taken over by receiving a maliciously crafted SMS message.
The iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that it is safe to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0.1 with the current release of RedSn0w
“You can re-use redsn0w v0.8 we released a few weeks ago to jailbreak today’s 3.0.1 update. Just let iTunes update or restore you to official 3.0.1 then run redsn0w. The only “trick” is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used, point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one. After the jailbreak, reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need the unlock.”
Apparently the current version of redsn0w and untrasn0w will work just as well with iPhone OS 3.0.1 as it does with iPhone OS 3.0, thus jailbreaking the iPhone 3.0.1 firmware already works. The only thing you need to do is to update your iPhone firmware to OS 3.0.1. Then run the RedSn0w (latest), when it asks for firmware provide it OS 3.0 and it will work like a charm. More detailed information about jailbreaking and unlocking OS 3.0.1 can be found on the Dev-Team’s blog.
