KDDI shows off the latest Samsung-made 3.1 inch OLED display. On show at CEATEC JAPAN 2008, the first panel is a 3.1-inch OLED running at 800 x 480 WVGA resolution; developed by Samsung, which supports DVD resolution video.
It offers the usual improved color reproduction and lower power requirements of OLED together with the ability to show finer detail in text and media. Unfortunately, the screen is only a prototype at this time. The second new display is also a 3.1-inch QVGA panel, but here capable of showing 3D images via parallax barrier technology. 2D images can be converted into 3D in real-time, with narrow angled strips running down the display used to show slightly different images to the left and right eye. In that way, no special glasses are required.KDDI says these panels will be in actual products (phones) shortly - but not specific date or modules yet
