Verizon Wireless and LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) today announced the highly-anticipated LG Dare(TM) is now available through Verizon Wireless’ online store. The latest device from LG has a 3-inch touchscreen with handwriting recognition, so that customers can more easily select their options on the phone. LG Dare includes a 3.2-megapixel camera with face detection and LED flash. The phone’s camera has a Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens for outstanding image quality. It has light exposure control, auto focus, and even face detection and noise reduction. There’s even a “Smartpic” technology that will compensate for face color and low light. The built-in camcorder is able to record up to 640×480 video with 120fps and play it back with 15 fps slow motion, which is a first in the U.S.
The LG Dare’s touch-screen offers the optimal HTML Web browsing experience and runs on the nation’s most reliable wireless network to ensure a smooth and easy navigation experience. Like the iPhone, Dare also features smart sensors to control the behavior of the phone. The proximity sensor switches the LCD off when the phone is held close to the user. It plus an accelerometer that rotates the screen to landscape mode in certain applications (the browser and text message interface rotates up to 90 degrees anticlockwise, for example).
Dare Bluetooth facilitates wireless data transfer from phone contacts and calendars to Bluetooth-enabled devices and printing of pictures on a compatible device. Additionally, it’s provided with a stereo Bluetooth headset to offer a wireless music experience to the users. Another nice feature is the ability to handwrite your message similar to Graffiti. Even though the Dare doesn’t have a stylus, you can use your finger to draw out letters and characters, and it has a pretty smart handwriting recognition that will recognize them.
This phone will be available through the carrier’s website and TeleSales division for $199 after $50 rebate on a 2-year contract, $249 after $50 rebate on a 1-year contract, and $409 full retail. In addition, for a limitted time Verizon is giving away 8GB microSDHC memory cards for those who order the phone online along with the $79 Nationwide Basic plan (1350 minutes) or $99 Nationwide Basic Unlimited plan.
