In its effort to put Silverlight on the same footing as Adobe’s Flash, Microsoft is trying to get Silverlight on both Android-based devices and Apple’s popular iPhone. Microsoft is reportedly very interested in pushing Silverlight on Apple’s devices. But it’s well known that Apple ultimately controls what software runs on the iPhone . It seems like Microsoft isn’t wasting any time in its battle with Adobe when it comes to the company’s Flash technology competitor, Silverlight.
Getting Microsoft Silverlight technology on the Google Android platform might be easier for Microsoft as they do not need to get it approved from Google or the phone developer. Adobe Flash for now is also missing from the Google G1 mobile phone. It remains to be seen if Silverlight on G1 would entice mobile platform content publishers to adopt it over Adobe Flash. Microsoft’s Silverlight has been in use on the Web by companies such as NBC to stream video from this summer’s Olympic games and is Adobe Flash’s main contender in the multimedia rich browser plug-ins. Microsoft launched version 2 of the Silverlight browser plugin earlier this week.
