Next-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class to feature ‘Splitview’ technology

Always on the forefront of the most cutting edge technology, the engineers behind the Mercedes S-Class have introduced another gadget. In its latest system called Splitview Technology, drivers are able to navigate the brand’s COMAND central computer system while at the same time on the same screen, front passengers can watch TV or a DVD. However, in general the facelifted S-Class has not changed much. Visually main changes include new bumpers, mirrors, LED headlights, LED taillights and a revised grille. Also the rear lights are not split any more. Looks like the LED boom is on!

Touchscreen functionality applies only to the driver’s view of the screen, however, with the passenger’s view controlled by a separate remote. To keep the passenger’s entertainment from distracting the driver, the audio output can even be routed through headphones while still allowing regular function of the rest of the car’s systems.  Mercedes will first offer Splitview on the 2010 S-Class next summer, with other models likely adopting the technology in the months following.
