The Signature S Design by Vertu is real and is apparently launched in Japan. Coming straight from Nokia’s luxury division, the chic phone is a new multi-thousand dollar toy for your enjoyment. Today, Vertu has announced that it’ll be opening its Vertu Boutique in Tokyo’s Ginza district, allowing rich Japanese people to purchase its insanely expensive Vertu phones locally. The first phone it will be offering to the Japanese customers will supposedly be its Signature S Design, which will be offered on NTT DoCoMo or Softbank. The handcrafted phone, made in England, will likely sell for between 890,000 yen (US$8,422) and 5 million yen. No matter which continent it’s in, a Vertu phone sure isn’t going to be cheap, and that’s the whole idea of course. The handset is fashioned from gold, platinum and other precious metals and boasts a crystal sapphire face. The preset ring tones are provided by the London Symphony Orchestra. The first phone to be offered there will presumably features 3G radio and an OLED display. The market for top-of-the-line handsets is growing on a global scale, and Japan shows much promise, says Tagore Ramoutar, who is in charge of developing Vertu’s Japanese operations.
