Nokia’s follow-up on two promising phones which it announced last week are four mid-range phones which put more emphasis on aesthetic design rather than functionality. Three of these new models belong to Nokia’s new Supernova series, the 7610, 7510, 7310 and 7210. Theese Supernova devices give people an option to truly personalize their look by matching the style of their phone to their ever-changing moods with a choice of exchangeable Xpress-On covers in striking colors and glamorous surfaces.
The flagship of the series is Nokia 7610 Supernova. It comes with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash and a 16M color QVGA screen. The stylish slider will rely on EDGE and GPRS for its data transfers as there is no 3G support available on-board. It offers Xpress-On covers in a choice of a set of ’steel blue’ and ‘red’ covers offset by a muted gray front surface, or ‘bright lilac’ and ’steel blue’ contrasted against a pristine white front surface. The innovative Theme Colorizer feature lets people identify and capture any color and further tailor a look by applying captured colors to the phone’s key illumination and wallpaper. TV out is included along with FM radio, and 860 mAh battery. It can be had for 225 EUR in Q3 2008 and it is pretty small at 98×48×15 mm weighing only 99 grams.
The 7510 sports a fold design with a push-to-open side key. Available with Xpress-On front and back covers in ’storm blue’, ‘red’, ‘emerald green’ and ‘espresso brown’ the Nokia 7510 Supernova features magical light effects with a hidden-until-lit display and a reminder light. It is equipped with two displays – a 2.2-inch 16M color internal one of QVGA resolution and an external one with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels. It also sports a 2 megapixel snapper (no autofocus here), FM radio, microUSB slot and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP). The internal memory will be up to 25MB and will be further expandable up to 8GB via the microSD card slot. A nice thing about the Nokia 7510 Supernova is the automatic opening mechanism – you can open it with a simple push of a button.
The slim and sleek Nokia 7310 Supernova includes Xpress-On covers etched with daring 3D textured designs available in ’steel blue’ plus a second front and back cover in ‘wasabi green’ or ‘candy pink’. A further five front and back cover options will be available for purchase in select markets in ‘mushroom silver’, ‘plum jam’, ‘electric blue’, ‘yellow mellow’ and ‘espresso brown’. The 7310 features a 2-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and TV out, instant messaging, FM RDS radio and an MP3 player. It will be available soon and retail for $243.
Finally we come to the most affordable member of the Supernova family – Nokia 7210 Supernova. It’s a thinner version of the 7310 and stands at only 10mm of thickness. It has only 256K color display, but it’s again a two-incher with QVGA resolution. Supporting tri-band GPRS and EDGE connectivity the bar-shaped 7210 has a built-in camera capable of taking photos of 2 megapixel resolution. Some of the other niceties of the 7210 include FM radio with RDS, microUSB and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) as well as 30 MB of internal memory. There is also a memory card slot for expanding the memory but it only supports memory cards with a capacity of up to 2GB. Nokia 7210 Supernova will be available in Bubble Gum Pink and Vivid Blue from Q3 2008. Its estimated retail price is 120 euro before taxes or subsides.
