Nokia to add IBM’s Lotus Notes email to smartphones

Nokia announced that IBM Lotus Notes will finally be compatible with a couple of Nokia cellphones, more specifically the ones based on S60. This means that S60 3rd Edition phones can connect to corporate email accounts via Lotus Domino Server software, called Lotus Notes Traveler. Lotus Notes has almost 140 million licensed users. The announcement opens the door for more than 80 million Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices to connect to corporate e-mail accounts. Traveler enables real-time syncing with email, calendar, address book, journal and to-do list data.

Key features of the new Lotus Notes Traveler include:
*Real-time IBM Lotus Notes email/PIM push solution with no middleware required
*Automatic real-time replication of Lotus Domino email, calendar, address book, journal, and to do lists
*Full email retrieval with attachment support
*OTA installation and easy setup and activation
*Authentication lockout support
*Contacts synced automatically back to the server (part of Lotus Notes 8.0)

The software will become available in the next month, December 2008.
