OpenMoko Jumps On Android Bandwagon

OpenMoko, the open source handset manufacturer, will be working on a new handset known as GTA02 from November onwards that will run on the Android platform.  Reading through their site, it looks like they are expecting to start offering an Android device using OpenMoko’s design as early as November. They also mention a free Beta port of Android for existing FreeRunner customers.

Details about the Android-powered OpenMoko GTA02 are still sketchy at the moment, but from what we’ve gathered, it could feature a 2.8-inch 480 x 640 pixel touchscreen display, 400/500 MHz Samsung 2442B Processor, built-in Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3 axis motion sensing accelerometer. And like the G1, it should still employ the use of “hard” buttons, as well as a so-called 4-in-1 laser pen. Motorola and Asus are already working on Android phones, and we wait for to see others like Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and even Nokia join the party.
