Optima unveils OP5-E MID with Maemo

Nokia’s future operating system release, Maemo is the talk of the town today. Maemo is Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s open source operating system built on top of the Linux kernel. Nokia currently ships a few internet tablets, namely the Nokia 770, N800 and N810, that run the Maemo OS. However, unlike Android, the operating system hasn’t strayed far from it’s developer.  Today the fourth one has been announced by a little known Chinese company called Optima. The OP5-E does boast much better specs than Nokia’s Tablet trio however: 5.6 x 2.9 x 0.69 inch frame, 806MHz Marvell PXA320 CPU, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, microSDHC support, 4.3-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen, GPS, EV-DO, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 3.2-megapixel camera and a 2600 mAh battery. The first version of the software, which is probably built on Maemo 4.1.2, to ship on the OP5-E will only support data via the built-in EVDO.

As you might expect, there’s no availability or pricing information available, certainly not for the US or Europe at any rate.
