Verizon has taken the first jab at the iPhone calling it a misfit. The lead ad, “Misfit Toys,” attacks the iPhone’s attachment to AT&T. The mythical Island of Misfit Toys is an island inhabited solely by those things you don’t need, don’t want and don’t work. Because of AT&T’s poor 3G coverage, the ad claims the iPhone will fit right in. The new commercials make a point to praise the phone, but attack the network, making it seem like Verizon is backing away from direct criticisms. The second commercial, below, shows us that the “naughty” people won’t be getting coal in their stockings this year.
Perhaps because there is some veracity to those rumors of an iPhone coming to Verizon in Q3 2010. Obviously, this is all just speculation, but we have seen a huge upswing of iPhone 4G rumors lately. Parts of the new phone have been spotted, and there have even been whispers that the 4G is already being tested on Verizon’s network.
Although an unannounced model for now, the new Sony Ericsson Kurara is rumored to be part of Sony’s “Entertainment Unlimited” series. The Sony Ericsson Kurara has made it into the wild in a series of fresh leaked images. Nothing is yet official, and the name of the handset might be changed before it hits the shelves. The device is reported to be Symbian S60 5th generation smartphone.
Moreover, The phone is said to have a large 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, an 8.1MP camera with auto focus and flash, and HD-quality video capability at resolutions up to 720p. The Kurara won’t sport an USB port . There’s no word on when to expect a formal announcement of the device, but if you believe the rumours it’s due to start shipping in the rather vague first half of next year. Hopefully, Sony Ericsson will do its best to deliver it faster to the market.

Apple iPhone owners in Australia have reported that their smartphones have been infected by a worm that has changed their wallpaper to an image of 1980s pop crooner Rick Astley. The wallpaper of Rick Astley that appears on the iPhone virus says “ikee is never going to give you up“.
Apparently it looks for other iPhones where the device is networked and spreads its dirty work. It makes use of the pre-installed SSH which is perceived to be unintentionally activated in jailbroken phones. with the iPhone’s default password, “alpine,” still in use. SSH lets someone connect to the iPhone remotely over the Internet, so installing this software with the default password in place is akin to adding an unlocked back-door to the device.` This one is currently circulating around Australia but nothing is preventing it from spreading overseas too.
Ashley Towns, a 21-year-old TAFE student who lives with his family south of Sydney, told ABC News Online he created the virus to raise the issue of security. Users are advised to properly secure their jailbroken iPhones with a non-default password, and Sophos says the worm is not harmless, despite its graffiti-like payload.
