Sony Mylo 2 updated brings ShoutCast, WMV

Sony has quietly updated its Mylo COM-2 comunicator to version 1.1 with new features alongside normal stability fixes. The refresh adds a native ability to play Windows Media Video as well as the original MPEG-4 format; users can also tune into ShoutCast MP3 radio stations whenever on Wi-Fi by using a separately downloadable widget. Access to Flash-based games is also made easier with a dedicated top-level menu item.

The 61MB patch is immediately available and can be downloaded from a PC; Sony doesn’t indicate that the software can be updated directly from the Mylo. [Read More…]

“Amazon Tax” Soon to Become Reality in New York

Brainchild of fallen hooker-loving ex-Governor Eliot Spitzer, New York legislators approved a bill last week that if signed by newly-instated cocaine and weed-loving Governer David Paterson, would force online retailers to collect state sales tax on all sales delivered to New York addresses. Paterson is expected to sign the bill. Currently, online retailers are only required to collect sales tax on purchases shipped to states in which they have physical operations. A quote from James Sherin, president CEO of the Retail Council New York:

“This is a first step, but a critical one, in our ongoing battle to level the sales tax playing field between New York retailers and the out-of-state Internet giants that have, for years, capitalized on an unfair and unintended competitive advantage driven solely by tax policy.”

It seems logical that businesses should collect sales taxes in states where they makes sales, but the bill treads into muddy waters with regards to interstate taxes and how they should apply to online retailers. [Read More…]

Use your iPhone to blog on the go

Matt Mullenwag, head honcho at WordPress, will only admit that there is a mobile device that has a WordPress client “built in,” and that “you can probably guess which one that is” - but we’ll take that as confirmation that WordPress is coming to the iPhone.

Six Apart, not one to man the sidelines, will also be throwing a native TypePad blogging application into the fray. “Six Apart pioneered the mobile blogging experience with an iPhone-optimized blog service,” said Chris Alden, CEO, Six Apart. “We’re taking it to the next level with our native iPhone application for TypePad that’s already in development.”

HKC launch of two dual-SIM devices

HKC launched the world’s first Windows Mobile smartphone with two SIM card slots, allowing savvy users to make and receive phone calls on two networks while doing their usual “Exchange thing.” Two models were announced — W1000 which is equipped with one GSM and one CDMA SIM slot, and G1000 that comes with to GSM slots.
