Nokia 2228 CDMA phone announced

Nokia is out with a new CDMA phone – 2228. Nokia 2228 is a slender monoblock device that combines an ultra lightweight design with an LED indicator. The low-end device seems designed to help the Finnish giant grab some marketshare in the CDMA space, where traditionally Nokia doesn’t stack well.Comes in a slim candy bar design, Nokia 2228 has 110 x 40 x 12 mm and its weight only 72 grams.Works on CDMA 1x, 800 MHz.

It’s an affordable 1.3 megapixel camera phone with a built in Nokia media player, supporting most of the common digital formats. It comes with speaker dependent voice recognition, an integrated handsfree speaker and can be used as a modem which allows a consumer to use their phone to connect to a PC for internet access. This Nokia cDMA phone also features stereo FM radio,  20-25 MB internal memory and video recorder. Nokia 2228 will be launched before the end of 2008 in select CDMA markets, which most probably means the US too. Its price was not announced, but it’s said to be an affordable one. Logical, since the handset only offers entry-level capabilities.

Motorola AURA is one expensive, cool-lookin phone

The new Motorola AURA that looks simply gorgeous seems as an effort to grab a piece of the luxury handset market and compete with likes of Vertu and Mobiado. The $2000 ‘Aura’, which has a circular screen, 62-carat sapphire crystal lens, and 200-part rotating mechanism that’s “more like opening a luxury car door than accessing a mobile device.” According to Motorola’s website, the expensive device combines “superb craftsmanship and a distinctive interface” and delivers “a sensory experience that is second to none for those with refined tastes.”

Besides the call quality you will find a 2-megapixel camera, microUSB port, Stereo Bluetooth, multimedia player, the quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), web browser, CrystalTalk Technology, 2GB of internal memory, and 7.3 hours talk time with 400 hours if on standby. There’s no 3G radio on board, though I doubt the lack of it will mean much for the uber-rich folks who buy these kind of phones.The 4.97-ounce handset is available exclusively from the MOTO STORE

Cricket adds Nokia 1606 AWS-capable phone to lineup

As of today Cricket offering the Nokia 1606 flip phone to its portfolio of AWS-capable wireless devices. As an Advanced Wireless Services (AWS)-capable device, the 1606 is able to take advantage of Cricket’s unlimited data plans. The Nokia 1606 is suitable for consumers looking for enhanced features like Mobile WEB, Games & Apps and text in a slim, sturdy package with a brilliant internal color display.

The 1606 includes an internal antenna, a 128×160 262K color TFT internal display, a 96×32 monochrome external display, a voice memo recorder, and SMS/MMS with predictive text. The device supports talk time of up to 3.5 hours and standby time of up to 11 days—and weighs a mere 2.68 ounces. Other functions and features of the 1606 include a flashlight built into the hinge, an integrated speakerphone and the ability to sync contacts with PCs.  The 1606 is available now at Cricket retail stores for nearly $130 without a contract.

AT&T’s Samsung Epix Now Official From AT&T

AT&T and Samsung on Tuesday introduced a smartphone with multiple features for the mobile professional. Samsung Epix is available officially from AT&T for folks living in the US. The Samsung Epix has a similar form factor as the Samsung BlackJack, but it has a touch-screen interface to go along with a full QWERTY keyboard. The Epix also has a navigational square in the center that uses optical mouse technology, a first for U.S. handsets, the companies said.

The i907 Epix rundown goes something like this: Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, 3.6Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel cam, AGPS with AT&T Navigator, Video Share support, 320 x 320 2.5-inch touchscreen display, and one of those crazy “optical mice” for on-screen navigation when using the touchscreen itself is just too much trouble. The Samsung Epix also supports multiple email accounts thanks to Microsoft Direct Push technology to keep business suits up to speed at all times with their mails and messages. The Epix is available now for $199.99 with a two-year contract.
