Sagem Wireless and Puma AG have made the official announcement for the Puma Phone. The phone is now available in 11 European countries and is heading to Africa and the Middle East in the next few weeks. As for pricing, the Puma Phone will come with a €399 (about $485 US) price tag for those looking to go contract (SIM) free
The handset is made by Sagem and sits below a full smartphone, but with a richer feature set than most featurephones. The handset’s main differentiator is the solar cell on its back, which can power the handset for 90 minutes following just an hour’s exposure to sunlight. The normal battery is also very efficient, boasting 340 hours in standby and five hours of talk time.
The phone that focuses on sport activities, features a 2.8 inch “thumbable” QVGA (240 x 320), GPS and compass, 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and 6x zoom, front facing VGA camera for video calling, and a microSD card slot with a 2GB card pre-installed. Otherwise the handset will also have GPS, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, FM radio, built-in music player, HSPA and W-CDMA/EDGE/GPRS/GSM connectivity. The phone comes with pre-installed apps for media playback, web browsing, email and IM, and for keeping up with your workouts.
