Samsung Omnia i900 touchscreen phone unveiled. By an official announcing it is said that it becomes a show of Samsung’s superiority as a new touchscreen device that promises as “everything to everyone” on the same day Apple are rumoured to be launching a 3G iPhone. There are no doubts that the i900 will beat the iPhone in terms of how many features it packs into this slim body. The camera, memory size, data speed, and GPS chip are some examples of how this phone will be better than the yet-to-be-announced 3G iPhone.
The Korean firm’s latest touchscreen phone is also its first to use Windows Mobile 6.1 but includes a custom TouchWiz front-end more friendly to home users; like the HTC Touch Pro and Touch Diamond, it uses Opera Mobile in place of Internet Explorer for web browsing. Internet access is fast with up to 7.2Mbps HSDPA on supporting 3G networks and Wi-Fi for other areas. A relatively unique miniature trackpad serves as a fallback for when on-screen buttons are too small to control, while an accelerometer (still rare in Windows Mobile devices) auto-rotates the display when the phone is tilted on its side.
A 5-megapixel camera is onboard with software for both face and smile detection using digital autofocusing. The new handset will sport a 3.2-inch screen. An FM tuner and basic GPS reception are equally standard which alongside support for DivX and Xvid.
