Samsung SCH-u740 review by MobileBurn “Overall, I am happy with the look and feel as well as the options the Samsung SCH-u740 provides, but I definitely struggle with its many quirks. Most such issues seem to be related directly to the Verizon UI or to Verizon’s V CAST services. I do certainly love the option of switching from regular predictive text input to a full QWERTY keyboard in one full swing. But I admit, the keyboard does take some getting used to and I definitely would caution novice mobile phone users that this is not the easiest keypad in the world to use due to the compromises needed to make it work in two orientations. But thanks to the keypad’s flexibility, along with great battery life, a microSD expansion slot, and broadband access, I give the Samsung u740 a “Recommended” rating.”

Samsung SCH-u740 review by InfoSync “When we first saw the Samsung SCH-U740 at CES 2007, we were intrigued by the dual-hinge design, which was a dramatic improvement over the old Samsung SGH-D307 on Cingular. Unfortunately, the U740 suffers from some serious issues in messaging and Web browsing, two areas at which a landscape QWERTY phone should excel. Messaging is too difficult to set up for day-to-day users, and the Web browser is unusable on the phone’s low-res screen. Call quality on the phone is good, but to compete with serious messaging phones like the enV and the Sidekick 3, the phone needs to be an easy-to-use messaging powerhouse. As it stands, it seems more like an average, 3G V Cast phone with a keyboard tacked on.”
Samsung SCH-u740 review by Cnet “The 1.3-megapixel camera has a healthy array of settings, which include five different resolutions (1,280×960, 640×480, 320×240, 160×120, and a Picture ID setting), three quality settings (Fine, Normal, Economy), up to 4x zoom, color effects, white balance, light metering, flash, a self-timer of up to 10 seconds, auto save, preview mode, multishot, three “ready” sounds (”Say Cheese!”, “Look here,” and “1,2,3!”) plus a silent option, and three shutter sounds also with a silent option. The camcorder has two recording modes: Clips meant for multimedia messages are limited to 15 seconds, but Normal mode lets you record for as long as the available memory permits. Of course, you always can use a microSD card for more space. The quality of the photos was acceptable; though the images appeared a little blurry, they weren’t as pixilated as that of a VGA camera, and colors remained bright and bold.”
