At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung announced the upcoming availability Samsung’s SGH-F480, also known as the Touchwiz cell phone. The new TouchWiz will be arriving in the European market on June 2008, with other regions to follow. So far, the touch screen smartphone market has been dominated by the iPhone worldwide and now Samsung gives more competitor of touch screen smartphone.
This is the first phone to use Samsung’s new TouchWiz interface, which is the successor of the Croix. It is very similar in the way it acts, but in visual aspect they have nothing in common: our main dislikes of the Croix were that it has monochrome look, and often the user must wonder what the icons actually meant. In the TouchWiz, everything is colorful, easily distinguishable, and has label with its function, so even the first time user will orientate easy. The Touchwiz is a slim guy that measures only 11.6mm in thickness, and comes in brushed metal finish. It’s got a leather case included to protect the touchscreen. Last but not least, the Samsung Touchwiz supports 3G/HSDPA high-speed Internet, which you’d only get in second generation of iPhone. The Samsung Touchwiz comes with pretty exciting features including 240 MB of internal music memory, 8GB memory card, an FM radio, a 5 megapixel camera featuring auto focus and a CMOS video lens. Besides, other features of TouchWiz’s camera are some what mostly found on a DSLR camera instead of on a cellphone, such as the the auto face detection and image stabilizer. The music player ‘filter menu’ is also from the high-class models, and thankfully the now playing interface has nothing to do with the Croix – it shows the art cover, the track information and the buttons for control.
