Sharp is exploiting the power of the sunray to create an energy-efficient and environment-friendly LCD TV. Sharp will be showcasing its new 26-inch solar powered LCD TV at the G8 (Hokkaido Toyako) summit which begins Monday. Sharp explains this new technology reduces annual energy consumption by about 75% compared to the existing 26-inch LCD TVs available in the market today. Moreover, the new triple-junction thin-film solar module technology is free of toxic materials. Not to mention that using solar panel reduces fossil fuel consumption. Coming to the specs it has a contrast ratio of 10000:1 and the display panel is just 20mm thick. Another innovation showcased by Sharp was a 26 inch solar panel which generates enough electricity to power the LCD TV. According to Sharp it is a perfect combo for the 1.6 billion people living below the poverty line in non-electrified areas and earning less than $2 a day.
