Announced on Tuesday, Slacker Radio for the iPhone and iPod Touch is just as lip-smacking good as anticipated, and is primed to give other streaming music apps like Pandora, Last.fm, and Tuner Internet Radio a beating. Two really cool features/functions of using slacker on your iPhone is battery-saving song caching and telling the application to adjust the stream based off of your favorites, the song’s popularity, and how recently the song was released, known as “fine tuning”. Choosing the next station is incredibly easy–your favorite and custom stations are at the top of a vertically scrolling list, with a search option, top stations, and the Slacker spotlight just below. Keep scrolling down to flick through the genres.
The songs sounded great through the WiFi connection, and fairly good through 3G.The Slacker app is available for free from the App Store. Once you have the app downloaded and installed you can then simply log-in, that is, assuming you already have an account with Slacker. If you have never used the service, then you have two options. You can sign up for a free account or a paid account. Both offer the same great music and the ability to favorite songs, ban songs, view album art, artist biographies and more.
