The Verizon Verizon XV6900, this carrier’s version of the HTC Touch, will soon get an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1, a faster version of EV-DO, and GPS support. So, Verizon HTC XV6900 owners don’t have to wait on an “official release†to start enjoying Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
The software upgrade is supposed to bring Windows Mobile 6.1, faster 3G in the form of EV-DO Rev. A network support, and a number of other new features to the XV6900—among them the Opera Mobile web browser and Verizon’s VZ Navigator, the latter to work with the smartphone’s integrated GPS. Unfortunately, Verizon is locking down the GPS receiver to only work with their VZ Navigator service
The Verizon XV6900
As mentioned earlier, this is a version of the extremely popular HTC Touch. It has a tablet shape with minimal buttons, instead emphasizing its touchscreen. It offers a customized launcher called TouchFLO, designed by HTC to make the device easy to use with fingers instead of a stylus. This CDMA device has Bluetooth but not Wi-Fi. Other features include a 128 MB RAM/256 MB ROM, 2.0 megapixel camera, and a microSDHC card slot.
