T-Mobile today announced the Sony Ericsson TM506, a compact and stylish clamshell phone designed for surfing the web. The TM506, Sony Ericsson’s first handset supporting T-Mobile’s (News – Alert) AWS spectrum (1700/2100), will be launched early next month. Sony Ericsson showed enlarging its carrier channels in the U.S. by including T-Mobile USA. With this addition, Sony Ericsson will now reach more than 31 million wireless subscribers.Â
The TM506 was created for consumers who want to express their personal style. Its compact design fits into any pocket, purse or briefcase. Users can choose between Chrome with Amber or Emerald highlights with a sleek ebony gloss. The Sony Ericsson TM506 brings a 2 megapixel camera to the party, paired up with a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot for easy memory expansion and Sony Ericsson’s Media Center feature, which allows you to easily manage your photos and videos. The TM506 also sports a built-in A-GPS module with TeleNav’s Navigator navigation software from T-Mobile to help you to easily find your way. The TM506 features quad-band GSM(850/900/1800/1900MHz) support, and works on T-Mobile’s new AWS 1700MHz 3G network as well as the regular 2100MHz networks used across Europe. Bluetooth 2.0 is also on board, with A2DP support for stereo headsets.
T-Mobile’s future handset weighs 3.4 ounces (96 grams) and, when not flipped, it measures 3.7 x 1.9 x 0.69 inches (94 x 48 x 17.5 millimeters). Its battery should be able to provide up to 9.5 hours of GSM talk-time, up to 3.5 hours of UMTS talk-time, or up to 250 hours of stand-by time. Pricing info hasn’t been released yet but expect this puppy to be pretty affordable as T-Mobile gives its shiny new 3G networks a push.
