Toshiba Corporation announced the launch of its first direct methanol fuel-cell product: Dynario. This Japanese firm announced the commencement of sales from October 29, its first direct methanol fuel cell power – Dynario. Toshiba has been researching such fuel cells since the 1990s. Toshiba said the unit, which costs 29,800 yen (£195), can triple the battery life of portable gadgets such as mobile phones and music players.
Dynario is a DFMC that can be refilled with methanol in about 20 seconds for continuous power. The methanol is injected into a dedicated cartridge within the device. The power created by the fuel cell is sent out via a USB cable to charge devices like mobile phones and PMPs. DMFCs are often seen as a greener source of energy than traditional batteries
Dynario, together with a dedicated fuel cartridge for refueling on the go, will be launched in Japan, in a limited edition of 3,000 units only, and will be exclusively available at Shop1048, Toshiba’s direct-order web site for digital consumer products in the Japanese market. Orders will be accepted from October 22, and shipping will start on October 29.
