Just a day after it launched three low-end cell phones, Samsung has joined with Verizon to bring out the Knack. The flip phone is there for users who want just a basic phone and makes its primary features those suited to inexperienced users or the elderl. The device has a built-in 911 button as well as an ICE (In Case of Emergency) button that provides a trio of essential contacts for just the user, such as a family member or a physician. The Knack boasts a 2.2-inch internal screen with large text and number fonts, a simplified user interface and messaging communication. A large keypad with distinctive tactile contrast allows customers to easily find the correct number on the Knack’s dial pad. While most all of the unwanted extras, such as a camera, have been removed. Moreover, the headset and power port covers are painted in distinctive red and blue colors that will make them easier to distinguish. A dedicated 911 access key along side an ICE (In Case of Emergency) button provides quick, obvious access to up to 3 contacts as well as provides a spot for some basic medical notes. Features include dual-band CDMA 1X connectivity (800 / 1900 MHz), messaging, voice commands, personal organizer options, a 2.5mm headset jack, a 2.2 inch TFT internal display with 176 x 220 pixels and 65K colors, a 96 x 96 pixel external display, advanced speech recognition, hearing aid compatibility, TTY capabilities, calculator, alarm clock, world clock and stopwatch. The Samsung Knack is available for order online at www.verizonwireless.com, in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, and by calling 1-800-2 JOIN IN. On Oct. 14 the phone will be in stores for purchase. Verizon is making the Knack available today for $40 when joined to a two-year contract.
