Verizon ads label iPhone a “misfit toy”

Verizon has taken the first jab at the iPhone calling it a misfit. The lead ad, “Misfit Toys,” attacks the iPhone’s attachment to AT&T. The mythical Island of Misfit Toys is an island inhabited solely by those things you don’t need, don’t want and don’t work. Because of AT&T’s poor 3G coverage, the ad claims the iPhone will fit right in. The new commercials make a point to praise the phone, but attack the network, making it seem like Verizon is backing away from direct criticisms. The second commercial, below, shows us that the “naughty” people won’t be getting coal in their stockings this year.

Perhaps because there is some veracity to those rumors of an iPhone coming to Verizon in Q3 2010. Obviously, this is all just speculation, but we have seen a huge upswing of iPhone 4G rumors lately. Parts of the new phone have been spotted, and there have even been whispers that the 4G is already being tested on Verizon’s network.
